October 15, 2013 — My first editorial for The Onion’s “The A.V. Club” on the subject of Kickstarter and how bands should approach it in 2013 is now available in both the print and online editions of the newspaper and you can read it HERE.
October 15, 2012 — I am overjoyed to announce that an essay I wrote called “Be Excellent To Each Other” is included in Chuck Ragan’s new book, The Road Most Traveled. It’s currently available from your favorite online retailer and you can learn more about it HERE.
For the past year I’ve also been working on a podcast called Going Off Track with Steven Smith and the rest of the team behind the now-defunct Fuse program Steven’s Untitled Rock Show. It’s currently available for free via iTunes or you can check it out over at www.goingofftrack.com.
February 23, 2011 — I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I updated the news section of this site. Apparently I’ve been so busy doing actual writing that I haven’t had a chance to fill you in on what else I’ve been up to.
For starters I’ve started writing for two great new places: eMusic and FILTER magazine. I wrote an album-by-album emo timeline for eMusic that you can view HERE and also have a feature in this month’s issue of FILTER that you can learn more about HERE.
I was also honored to write to the foreword for the Fueled By Ramen 15th Anniversary book, which you can pick up HERE. There are literally hundreds of other assignments I’ve written over the past 14 months but that’s what Google is for, right? I’ve also done a ton of new bios for acts like Motion City Soundtrack, Hot Water Music, Every Time I Die, Anthony Green and more, which I will be posting in the coming months.
Happy belated 2011, everyone!
December 8, 2010 — I will be appearing at the Upright Citizen’s Bridgade in New York on Friday night at midnight as part of the monthly show Break Up Your Band alongside Christian Finnegan (Comedy Central, VH1) Geoff Garlock (Orchid, Panthers) and more! The best part is that it’s only five bucks! You can buy tickets or get more information HERE.
October 11, 2010 — Check out my exclusive review of the upcoming My Chemical Romance album Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys for Alternative Press HERE!
October 1, 2010 — Thanks for visiting my new site, it’s kind of like my old site except a lot more easy to navigate. First of all I want to thank Dave Lewis of Marketing Dept for assisting me in design and the equally talented Samantha Marble for allowing me to use the amazing photo that’s hovering above this text.
Now that’s out of the way, I thought I would update you on what I’ve been upto writing-wise. Right now my main gig is as a contributor to MySpace’s Music Blog and you can view all of my recent articles there under my “Published Writing” link. In addition to that I am also writing regularly for Alternative Press, Inked, Revolver and Shockhound. (You can view those clips on this site, too.)
I am also doing lots of artist bios these days and I’ve taken it upon myself to update this version of the site to reflect some of my relatively recent works. When I’m not busy interviewing rock stars, I also try to be one on the side and you can order my band United Nations’ new 7-inch via Deathwish Inc. here.
Finally, I also read a lot, so if you’re really bored you can check out my Shelfari page—and feel free to give me any suggestions. I’m looking forward to updating this section of the site regularly. No, really, I mean it this time.
